Rick Yutaka Fowler was born on December 13, 1988, in Murrieta, California, U.S. He was raised in Murrieta and graduated from the Murrieta Valley High School.
Fowler played college golf for Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. He had a successful amateur career. He won the Sunnehanna Amateur in both 2007 and 2008. Fowler was a world no. 1 amateur golfer and played the 2008 U.S. Open as an amateur. He was also awarded the Ben Hogan Award.
