The Ryder Cup excitement is only going to get bigger as the preparations are in full swing. The 44th edition of the rivalry between Team Europe and Team U.S. will take place from Sept. 25-Oct. 1, 2023, at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club, Rome, Italy. Team Europe visited the United States last time out when they lost 19-9, at Whistling Straits, in 2021. However, it’s now 30 years since Team U.S. last visited Europe and won.
It was a different scenario at the 2018 Ryder Cup, in which Team Europe won by 17.5-10.5, at Le Golf National in Prais.
This year, the non-playing European captain Luke Donald will have six captain’s picks alongside six automatic spots based on points.
Henrik Stenson was originally selected as the Ryder Cup captain for Team Europe. However, he was stripped of the duty due to his joining the LIV Golf. For the same reason, the likes of Sergio Garcia, Lee Westwood, and Dustin Johnson may have already played their final Ryder Cup matches.
Latest Team Europe Rankings
The top three eligible players from the European Points List, and the top three eligible players from the World Points List who haven’t already qualified from the European points list, will form Team Europe.
All the European players will earn points, beginning from the 2022 BMW PGA Championship in Sep. It will conclude on September 3, 2023, when we will get the six automatic spots.
